some called it strange but i

devoted my life to what could be

called the simplest of things

like memorizing every contour of

your body the feel of each strand of

hair the way your skin would catch

the sunlight in the mornings

every hour of every day i would

strive to be perfect for you pray

that every action every word would

at least bring a smile to your face

and i've failed

because in whispering the words

goodbye i condemned myself to

a world without your smile a world

without your kiss or the feeling of

your skin against mine at night

in the second it took to turn away

i didn't realize that to you i was

gone forever

didn't realize that by walking away i

had destroyed the only thing that

brought me happiness

the only thing that gave me life
