I dreamt of lands so far away

Of dragons, elves and fae

The time your word's a solemn oath

Your kiss a promise made

I dreamt of forests dense and dark

How truth can't be more stark

You did not have to go away

A fight you have no part

I dreamt of battles hard and fierce

The nights bring bitter tears

Were you hurt? Worn? Thinking of me?

The months stretched into years

I dreamt of demons yours and mine

A dark no light could shine

Then came the news I dread to hear

And so my hopes unwind

I dreamt of mouths that lie, deceit

My heart they cannot cheat

You're gone, lost, unaccounted for

Though many you defeat

I dreamt of hope that I might find

Them wrong, and you alive

And lo, I went to where it was

The battle that you fought

I dreamt of blood that marks the spot

But find it I could not

All signs of strife's been washed away

Cloaked with a winter coat

I dreamt the elves have heard you sing

Of lands so far away

They looked at me, their sorrow deep

And shook their heads for 'nay'

I dreamt the fae have seen your face

A beauty that was rare

They said they might recall if they

Have seen you there before

I dreamt the dragons wise and old

With hoards of gem and gold

Have heard of one who's lost alone

What fate to him befall

I dreamt the fear I dread to feel

Creeping even closer

Each creature told me you're not there

Your trail grows colder, colder

I dreamt you found your way back home

I know not where to look

You died? I cannot bear the thought

Alone. No! I cannot!

I dreamt of oceans deep and blue

Will they take me home to you?

Your oath to me is void by death

It makes it seem so cruel

I dreamt of love stolen from me

As I sail the empty sea

A hope I held, but oh what for?

And so I dreamt no more
