Eulogy To A Lady True
By: ladyhawk
As the first grandchildren came along
There were many grandparents to embrace
But for a child's mind it's hard to sort
Which name does go with that face?
So to save a child's confusion
of "grandma two" or "nanna three"
She bacame known to us as Cammy
as she bounced us on her knee.
As a little tot i remember her
as strict but very loving
Every hello orgoodbye hug
left a lipstick kiss still glowing.
Us girls it didn't bother us
It made us feel quite pretty
but the boys did not appreciate listick
they thought it was just yicky.
Embarrassed and moaning disapproval
they would rub and scrub it off
then give a little smile
they were contented by her love.
In advance of every birthday
she would save and choose a gift
something thoughtfully special
plus some knickers and handkerchief.
If Cammy cooked for you a sponge cake
it melted like fairy floss
so light and perfectly fluffy
with passionfruit icing on top.
Or perhaps she cooked some shortbread
almond cookies or other treat
Don't confuse the delicious fragrance
with a waft of perfume sweet.
Her dressing table displayed
perfume, powders and facial creams
she took pride in softness of the skin
and smelling like her sweetheart's dream.
To have a chat with Cammy
was often musical and long
for if you cued her with a phrase she knew
she would break into a song.
And her voice it was a joy to hear
a gift upon the air
floating sweet melodies
she always liked to share.
And Cammy was so very proud
of grandchildren she adored
the toybox for their playfullness
and the lolly jar full stored.
That red lolly jar its's seen some years
we always thought we'd won
we'd nick a lolly behind her back
and think she had not known.
And then to watch our own children
try to play the very same trick
we saw her smile behind the door
and she'd give a little wink.
Cammy had to try this one last time
and hope for the best outcome
she was calm before the operation
and knew the best would be done.
She tried real hard to come back to us
she she was tired in her heart
and she knew by faith
it wasn't an end but a new start.
The start of another life
she'd waited long to share
back with her darling sweetheart
she won't be lonely there.
Shortly after we had heard the news
that she hadn't made it through
I thought of her alone and cold
My heart had ripped in two.
I saw our Cammy through my tears
above me looking down
brilliant light all around her
in a white silken gown.
"Don't look down into a sadness
Look up for I am here
Look up into this brightness
It shines throughout the years.
Look up and see my young smile
I have my husband and my brothers
I've even found my Mum and Dad
my dearest son and others.
I miss you all but try to smile
For if you look up and try
you'll see me dancing a waltz with Bob
up in this heavenly sky."
